Have you ever been approached in a parking lot and been asked to sample a perfume?

These two guys came up to me in the parking lot and asked me what perfume I wear, and if I wanted top sample some. I was kind of freaked out but took a sniff of two of the perfumes he sprayed on a piece of paper and said ';No thanks'; and drove off.





Is this normal? I looked it up online and saw people saying it's some kind of scam and after you sniff the ';perfume'; you pass out. Well I haven't passed out. Should I be worried?Have you ever been approached in a parking lot and been asked to sample a perfume?

Be super careful when you're in the parking lots and elsewhere, try to go with a guy or at least another person!!





If you see guys like that again, or anyone who tries to offer/sample something to sniff, eat, or drink...drive around and try to get their license plate number and report them to the police.

Yes, they are Macy's employees who work in the perfume department. On occasion, there will be vendors from specific perfume companies who will pass out samples and greet customers. You can tell if they are Vendors when they have stickers on that say ';visitor.';

You could just go to a department store and ask for a sample...or one of those snooty places in the mall where they let you sniff the stick from the tester bottle.

no, it does not have to be parfume from lanvin, but it can be. go back and try it all again. start with lanvin and if it is not the perfume, sniff around for a while and im sure you will find it. also ask shop assistant what perfume was on promotion on that particular day........they should know.

Would you think someone was cheap if they put some perfume samples in your christmas gift? i know i'd call someone cheap if that was all they got me. i know christmas is still nine months away, but i'm going to be picking a few things up here and there for my thirteen-year-old cousin.

Are you freaking serious? I wish my cousins would buy me all that stuff. But then again I'd have to buy them all that stuff adn that would suck. But to answer your question, NO it's not cheap to give perfume samples! I mean, as long as they're not some Avon or other cheap perfume. It's fun to add a few little things to a bigger gift. It's like when you buy something big from Sephora and they throw in some free samples, it's fun! Just make sure they're good brands.. I love Juicy Couture and those DKNY Delicious ones.. YUM! You are very generous though and i'm sure your cousin will not think you're cheap!!! :)

Thats a good idea. Why not package the gift card with the samples and then you can explain to her that you thought she could try them out before she bought one of thats what she decides to use it for.

How to make your own perfume samples?

Hello all- my best friend lives in NY and I live in FL. She was curious as to what scents I like to wear, because she is personalizing a perfume for me. I wanted to send her samples of the fragrances I have and like. I've looked in stores at the mall and whatnot to see if I can just pick one up for free or purchase a small sample, but the samples are about $10 each and I figured there must be a way to do it by myself. Someone suggested spraying it on paper, but since we are 1500 miles away, I'm sure the scent would not be as strong or even there at all by the time it arrived in NY. I would be sending it in the mail, so I'd want it to be a secure type of container, but I also need it to be really really tiny, so I can spray one or two drops of the fragrance in. Put them in small plastic baggies and send them in separate envelopes so the fragrances don't blend together. Cheap and easy!

I went to macy's to buy Nina Ricci and they gave me like three little sample bottles of it. Just go to a department store, find it, and ask to try it. They'll give you a sample, I mean, it's free! When I tried out the sample, it smelled very sweet, so I would be careful not to put on too much if you bought it. But it does smell pretty good...kind of sweet, fruity, and playful.


And I agree with the whole caring about the perfume and not paris hilton thing. When I tell people I like the perfume, they usually think i'm weird, but i don't like paris! i just like the perfume!

A lot of places where you buy perfume, they have testers that you can spray on yourself.





If they don't have testers, that's telling you that the place you're buying from isn't specializing in perfumes, and if you opened a bottle yourself and tried it, and an employee saw you, they wouldn't care. Places like this are Wal Mart and Target - both of which sell perfumes.

Burlington has the small size vials or you can find them on Ebay. You can also save the small vial bottles, get a tiny perfume funnel and put new perfume into the bottles you already have (a big money saver).

I went to Macy's today and I was looking for a new perfume. The SA just sprayed some on one of those cardboard things. I asked her if they had samples of that perfume or one of some others (I'm still deciding on which one I want), and she said no. I think its hard to get any free samples from online stores. They only want you to use your visa card right away:P But my experience is that its very easy to get the Beauty Salons and Boutiques to hand out free stuff if you just act genuinely interrested in buying. I haven't been given a free sample of perfume for years, once upon a time they would hand out those small glass tube things, it's a shame really cuz i have bought lots of stuff after being given a free sample, used and enjoyed it-that goes for make-up too..Clinique and Chanel are quite generous in that department.


You just need to ask the girls on the counters. sometimes they have things to give away and sometimes they don't. Just ask in the department stores.

I have armani code. It's somewhere between chic, modern and a little sensual. Not a heavy perfume at all...Now, on me it does not last very long. On someone else, it could last all day. This might be a stupid question, but:





I love the smell of a perfume sample I found in a magazine (both on its own, and when it's on my skin). If I buy a bottle, will it likely smell the same on me? Just because sometimes the chemicals can react differently...Perfume samples in magazines?
Well sometimes it can be stronger or weaker depending on how much perfume was put on the sampler paper.





Sometimes, a perfume can be strong, and a dab of it is put in the paper so it doesn't smell as strong.





My advice is try out the perfume from the bottle directly, perfume stores usually have sampler bottles for the perfume you want.Perfume samples in magazines?
In my own experience, the perfume samples in magazines are sooo unreliable. Some smell the same out-of-bottle, some smell completely different. I usually get the little spray vials for free with a Sephora order, or you can go to some places like www.perfumebay.com and get samples for really cheap.
I would go to a good department store and try the same perfume. Most stores will let you sample. I would then wait several minutes and see if it still smells the same. The best way to make a scent last longer is to by the scent in a bath product, lotion, and then perfume or cologne. Your own sweat can also alter the scent too.

That's a tough one. No one give stuff away like they used to. One way is to ask ladies at work to save what they get. Obviously, if you had a connection at a cosmetics counter, you would have already tried there. But writing a letter to a department store cosmetics manage might help. Sephora put out a great perfume samples-only catalog last spring. Maybe you could contact them and see if they have leftovers (there were about 12 samples for women and several for men. I had a ball with it!). Teachers' message boards might help too. We (I'm a teacher) always do what we can to help out people helping kids. Post to Teachernet.com.

If they have samples, they would be delighted to give them to you. Trust me, I do this ALL the time!





They are trying to get you to buy their product, so they'll give you a sample in hopes that you'll like it and come buy the product.





I've gotten TONS of free samples in my lifetime, and the sales people are eager to give them to you.





Want to know another way to get free stuff? Ask at the beauty counter for a makeover and they'll do it for free! Plus, places like Sephora offer a free membership thingy where they'll send you samples in the mail and you'll get discounts at the store!

As a former beauty counter employee at Macy's, the answer is technically yes. You should show basic etiquette in asking though; At least pretend to be interested in the counter and products, otherwise you will come off as a freebie wh*re, and reps will often say they don't have any in order to save for customers who will potentially buy. I hope I don't seem cruel, but it's the truth.
You should be able to ask for a sample, just don't go overboard and ask for a dozen of them. If it's perfume, ask if they have sample vials or sample cards. They will probably have them behind the counter or can decant one for you.
I have actually done this before in Macys with an eye cream and it was fine they couldnt be more happy to help... im pretty sure most people do this to test the product before they actually buy it so youll have no probs x
I didn't know you could ask for lip gloss sample... hm. do they really have that?

If you have a representative they always give out free samples for perfume or you can buy them online and if you don't like the smell you can just give them back and moneyback. at Avon.com or whichever shop you go to you can usually test the perfume before buying.

It would be very hard to get free samples of Juicy Couture perfumes. Try going to Bloomingdales and ask someone at the counter if they'd let you have a sample, but they'd have to be VERY generous to do so, especially if you're asking for more than one. Other than that, they sell little bottles (larger than sample size) at Sephora's but it's very expensive.

if you want free stuff, I really really like http://www.sampleaday.com for it. They sort through and find the legit samples so you don't have to. They are great because they are updated daily and all of their offers are ';catch free';, that means no long surveys, no pay offers. They also have a e-mailing list where they send you the free samples listed on their site. I use that so I get them in my email which comes daily. It isn't required though to get the freebies. Sometimes their descriptions are pretty funny too! If you are looking for a specific type of free sample, there is a categories list and a search bar right above categories so that you can do searches.

I'm not sure about a website, but if you go to a Sephora store you can ask them for a sample of the Hillary Duff perfume you mentioned.. they'll just take the bottle and spray some into a teeny spray bottle, then put it in a little baggie for you. I've done it so many times, I have at least 10 little perfume samples from Sephora :)

The department stores hire them. I recently saw ads in my local newspaper for a major department store hiring seasonal staff, in the area of perfume sales. You could ask one of those ladies how she got her job or you can just pick up a bottel of perfume and stand by the counter and ask people as they pass by if they would like a sample. (You know just to try out the job to see if it's worth fill out the paper work)
