Every time I leave a magazine laying around on the floor she manages to get to the perfume samples and instead of smelling them she licks. Could she be lacking something in her normal diet? Why does my 14 month old insist on licking the perfume samples in my magazines?
At her age, everything goes in the mouth...it is a developmental stage. You could certainly remove the magazines if it bothers you. Taste and smell are very closely related and that is the way children of her age experience the world. Texture, touch, smell, taste...that's why it can be so frustrating at this age. This can be a time of teaching,
';Smell with your nose'; and then show her. ';Smells pretty'; or ';Smells icky';. ';Not in your mouth. Achy';...or whatever terms you care to use. Why does my 14 month old insist on licking the perfume samples in my magazines?
It might be the alcohol in the perfume. A while ago I heard about how kids were licking the hand sanitizer off their hands because of the alcohol and were getting alcohol poisoning (of course who would have thought, and they didn't know any better).
Either rip them out and throw them away when you go through the magazine or keep them out of her reach.
No she thinks she see people licking them when really it's done so fast not realizing they are smelling them, so maybe you should show her what people do and that smell should be applied to the clothing for a smell good. Show her and she will get it if she doesn't it, move the magazines until she understands and so she won't get sick.
HAHAHA. I caught my 7 month old doing this the other day. I'll usually let him ';read'; magazines while I covertly watch (pretending to ';read';, myself), and I couldn't figure out why he was so obsessed with one page in particular...
the dude was smearing the perfume sample all over his tongue and face.
*shrug* I just took it as a ';baby'; thing. You could always ask your doc, of course. :)
My 2 year old eats lotion..... im not worried they just dont understand that u just smell things not eat them.....lol... Im not worried about her.... I catch her whan I can..... and dont leave lotion lying around anymore.....
I doubt the perfume samples are harmful so dont worry... im sure its a natural thing.....
Like u wouldnt give her toothpaste cause... guess what she'd squirt the whole tube down her troat...!!!
They are just silly babies... dont worry!!!!
Don't leave magizines laying around...And talk to your children's doctor
I don't think she is lacking anything it just tastes interesting and your reaction might be funny to her.
Keep them away though, they could be toxic
Don't let her do that, i would pick all the magazines off the floor.
She doesn't understand that the smell is to smell and not to taste.
development. but i wouldn't let her lick them. they could be toxic! please keep them out of her reach, or tear out the pages. she can still smell it, but not able to lick the page!
